Your Teen’s First Date, How Should You Deal With It?

Your Teen’s First Date, How Should You Deal With It?

By Cole Carson

What parent doesn’t eventually hear their teenager say; ‘I’m going to be going on a date Friday evening.’ At some point, everybody’s child grows old enough to start showing interest in the opposite sex, and that inevitably leads up to the first date. Plenty of parents see this as an exciting and happy moment, making sure to take plenty of pictures and shower their child in almost embarrassing excitement, but many others see this as a scary or worrisome experience. – Of course, the latter is sad, because the first date does not have to be a bad thing at all. So how far exactly do you get yourself involved into your teen’s dating life and what action do you take in regard to their first date? There are plenty of different opinion on this, but I think we can all agree that we should never hide our children away from living, and when the world of dating finally comes around to your child, we must to a certain extent, embrace it.

Plenty of parents have absolutely no idea as to the role that they should be playing in their teenager’s dating life. Do they embrace and support it with enthusiasm and excitement, or should they be wary and overprotective? The answer is, of course, that you need to be both. As a parent, you’re going to be walking a very thin line between the two. – A delicate balancing act, so to speak. Teenagers are obviously not yet adults, and are very much childlike in the sense that their minds are in no way completely developed. – They just don’t have the thought and reasoning capacity of any adult. This of course makes teenagers much more likely to live in the ‘now’ without thinking ahead, making them far more prone to stupid mistakes. Of course, despite all of this, you still must understand that you cannot hide them from the world and living.

Every single child is going to make mistakes. One of the crucial roles in the game of growing up is learning from the mistakes we make. It is up to parents to see that the mistakes that their children make are small enough that they will not be life altering. By shielding your child from the world, you are seeing that they have no chances to make any mistakes. – You are only ensuring that when your child grows up and is no longer under your wing, they will have no life experience, and it is then that their mistakes will finally be made. – When you are no longer there to help them. So of course you must realize that you need to allow your child to live life, even make mistakes at times, while they are still living under your roof. This ensures that you will be there to steer them back on the right path, and it will keep your child from feeling like he or she has to be rebellious.

However, make sure that this chance at gaining valuable life experience comes with rules. As we have already noted, teenagers tend to think in the present with little regard to the future, and often aren’t great at practicing reason. If you leave the situation completely in their hands, you can bet money that they will eventually wind up over their heads. The important thing is that you find a balance. You must take an active stance in your child’s dating life without impeding it. Meet their prospective dates, and be sure to talk to your teen about them. When you show an interest in the people your teen is interested in, they are much more likely to include you, which is important because these people will have a powerful influence on them.

When your teen starts dating, it does not have to be a bad experience for you, or something you should worry about! It can and should be an exciting new time in their life that you both should share. Involve yourself, as them fun little questions about their date, like what they find most attractive about them or what kind of interests or hobbies they have. – These questions that will help you not only to bond with your teen, but to show them that you’re not there to boss or police them. Make sure though not to take this too far, and let them know that you’re still the parent, still in control, and that both your child and their date need to respect you. Striking this balance is the key to making sure your teen grows up with a happy and enjoyable dating experience that they will be able to look back fondly upon when they are grown.

French fishermen blockade Channel ports

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

French fishing vessels have blockaded the English Channel ports of Calais, Bolougne, and Dunkirk.

Not a boat will go in nor out

The protest is an industrial action over tighter fishing quotas imposed by the European Union, with French fishing unions asking for their government to provide financial assistance or take a tougher line. CFTC Fishermans Union spokesman Bruno Dachicourt told Agence France Presse: “There are easily twenty boats blocking the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer in organized ranks. Not a boat will go in nor out.”

The fishermen are protesting the lowering of European Union quotas on fishing, which place a ceiling on the amount of fish that the fishermen of each member country are allowed to catch and sell. The EU has lowered quotas in response to concerns about the sustainability of fisheries, but each drop in quota reduces the amount of work each fishing vessel can do. “The feeble amount of the quota obliges us to close the fishing zones three months after the beginning of the catch”, said Stéphane Pinto, spokesman for the CFDT trade union group representing fishermen in Boulogne.

Ferry sailings between Dover in the United Kingdom and Calais were suspended, with UK authorities implementing the Operation Stack management plan in response. Under the plan sections of the M20 motorway are closed to traffic and used as a managed lorry park. Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes if possible. Most cars and passengers from the P&O Calais-Dover sailings at 16.10 (apparently the first sailing affected), 17.40 and 18.25 left on the “Pride of Dover” at 11.47 arriving Dover at 12.30. Two SeaFrance ferries, Renoir and another, left slightly earlier.

Fishermen have also used fires and roadblocks to interfere with access to the ports by road.

The blockades come eight days after a similar incident in the Mediterranean, when French fishermen in Marseille, Ajaccio, Toulon and other port cities interfered with oil tanker movements and blockaded ports throughout the south of the country.

Wikinews is unaware of any official statement from the British or French Governments in response to the blockade.

An Overview On Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

An Overview On Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

By Adriana J. Noton

In an overview on bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, it helps to know this condition is not limited to menopausal women. Men over 50 often experience a decline in hormone levels as well. In fact, a decrease in levels can be experienced by even much younger adults.

Medical science offers one of two choices to correct these changes. Hormone Replacement Therapy, known also as HRT is one choice. This treatment uses hormones which are created in the laboratory to bring about the proper balance. Even though these are man made, once inside the body these synthetics will perform naturally.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, simply called BHRT differs from HRT. This treatment involves the use of prehormones also known as precursors which are naturally found in plants. These are modified until they bear a resemblance to those which exist in our bodies. Wild Yam and Soy are examples of the plants from which these substances are derived.

The results of BHRT can be invigorating for some patients. Treatment can prevent such conditions as osteoporosis and heart disease, especially in menopausal women. Women who suffer from irregular menstrual cycles may also benefit from treatment.

Often prescribed for men, BHRT can help to alleviate symptoms of andropause. Symptoms like erectile dysfunction, difficulty concentrating, hair loss and anxiety as well as insulin resistance seem to affect men over 50. At times, younger men may also experience one or more symptoms.

There are six forms of treatment in BHRT. Injections, vaginal suppositories, and creams are well-known. Troches, (lozenges), capsules, and pellets which may be more expensive are also options.

Creams are easy to use. Patients may use more or less when managing levels. They usually come in a syringe or a jar and are white or light yellow. Because the base is very much like vanishing cream each application disappears quickly. Applications are absorbed into the layers of the patients skin which then slowly releases the medication into the blood.

Vaginal suppositories are another option. The solids are melted by the body’s temperature after being inserted. This method has an advantage as it works directly at the site of insertion. The rise in hormone levels may be quicker than creams or oral doses.

Similar to lozenges, troches dissolve within 24-45 minutes. Placement is between cheek and gum and medication lasts for 4-6 hours. Troches are available in a variety of tasty flavors.

Capsules are another option. They can be modified for those who require longer acting treatment. These extended release capsules insure medication lasts longer during the day. This form of medication should be taken each day at the same time.

Patients who are athletic or tend to suffer from stress may find pellets to their advantage. Once inserted under the skin, pellets may supply medication from 1 to 6 months. This is a treatment based on supply and demand offering freedom from daily dosing or applications.

Often compounding pharmacists work with prescribing physicians to achieve the optimum dose for their patients. Customizing dosages can be very helpful as no two patients are alike. Proper testing can determine if there is a need for treatment. An overview of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can be more beneficial if discussed with a primary care provider.

David Cameron responds to rioting, promises changes on policing

Saturday, August 13, 2011

British Prime Minister David Cameron has stated that a change in police strategy is appropriate following what many feel to be an inadequate response to the rioting that has overrun many cities across England. Riots started in Tottenham on Saturday night after the fatal shooting by police of Mark Duggan, a 29-year-old taxi driver who the Independent Police Complaints Commission state was in possession of a handgun, but did not fire it.

During the Parliamentary debate on the riots, David Milliband, the Labour leader, called on Cameron to reconsider cuts to police budgets. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne described the communities where the rioting occurred as being “left behind” and “cut-off from the economic life-blood of the rest of the country”, and called for solutions to the “deep-seated social problems”

One avenue the Prime Minister is said to be considering is changing regulations on social media services like Twitter, Facebook and BlackBerry Messenger, the latter being used to communicate between groups of rioters. The Open Rights Group and Big Brother Watch came out in opposition to any plans to restrict communication using social media, with Jim Killock of the Open Rights Group warning that such regulation would be abused by the police and private companies.

In Southampton, England, three people were arrested by police for the suspicion of using Twitter or BlackBerry Messenger to encourage the rioting. The government is “working with the police, the intelligence services and industry to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these Web sites and services when we know they are plotting violence, disorder and criminality,” said Cameron.

The Prime Minister also announced that he would consider using the army to support the police in controlling future rioting, and also that he would consult with William J. Bratton, CBE, who had been the chief of police in Los Angeles and a police commissioner in New York City and Boston. Bratton is quoted as saying that arrests are not the only way to solve societal problems which lead to rioting and unrest: “You can’t arrest your way out of the problem.”

Understanding The Benefits Of Outsourced It Services

Understanding The Benefits Of Outsourced It Services

Understanding the Benefits of Outsourced IT services

by

Martin Lobo

Businesses often choose to outsource their information technology (IT) systems and services for a variety of reasons. The present time has seen a remarkable development in offshore IT industry. In today’s business environment, almost every company wants to produce a quality product faster and cheaper than their competitors. Choosing an offshore service provider can save companies 25 percent off the cost of outsourcing to a domestic provider. A recent report also indicates that most offshore outsourcing efforts save 15 percent to 20 percent when all costs are considered, with best-practices firms achieving 25 percent to 30 percent savings. IT outsourcing often includes data center operations, desktop and help desk support, software development, e-commerce outsourcing, software applications services, network operations and disaster recovery.

As outsourced IT services have become a part of the business strategy, more and more companies are moving towards outsourcing their IT development needs. It has without a doubt become a competitive necessity in the era of e-business. While companies that outsource IT services enjoy many benefits, saving money is one of the most compelling reasons for doing so. Low cost of development is one of the most beneficial factors of outsourcing. Outsourced IT services include some obvious benefits, like giving you an opportunity to focus back on the core issues of business, reallocating capital investments, gaining access to wider knowledge base and professional resources. When you have inflexible deadlines, outsourcing can remarkably reduce your time to market, as these companies are specialized in deploying a project on time with satisfactory results. Usually IT outsourcing services make up fixed costs for companies that do not outsource. And businesses that choose to outsource IT, whether offshore or through a local contractor, convert those fixed expenses to variable ones, thereby releasing capital for use in other areas. There are a large number of businesses who are increasingly turning to outsourcing services to lower delivery costs and gain access to diverse IT skill sets. A company having experience will be able to provide you better solutions than amateurs. It is because they have a better understanding of the industry and can develop a solution that can meet present and future needs. Outsourcing IT services allows business managers to focus on primary goals and objectives. While outsourcing IT systems and services creates a more equitable playing field between small firms and large enterprises, it is essential for you to do research about the company to be hired for your services. A good track record is necessary to determine their professionalism, commitments, capabilities and skills to accomplish the tasks properly.

Australian swim team pulled from Rio training pool when water turns ‘soupy’

Saturday, August 6, 2016

Concerns about water quality at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games have expanded to include the inside training pool: top Australian swimming coach Michael Bohl moved his Olympic athletes from the main training pool on Thursday citing fear of infection.

The team had a pre-booked session in the training pool where they would have practiced uninterrupted. However, during the session the water in the pool turned, as Bohl described, “cloudy” and “soupy looking”. Concerned about his athletes’ health, he moved them from the training pool to the busier, but cleaner, main competition pool.

Bohl took his concerns to officials and was told the matter would be looked into.

This comes off the back of other water concerns in Rio, particularly in the Guanabara Bay venue for outdoor water events. An Associated Press-commissioned study found Rio’s Olympic waterways contained as much as 1.7 million times worse viral levels than the emergency threshold in Europe or the US. As a result, athletes were advised to keep their mouths closed and avoid putting their heads underwater or risk falling ill.

Swimming events at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games are to begin today.

RSA: cautious welcome to Stern Review

Thursday, November 2, 2006

The Royal Society of Arts (RSA) gave what it called a “cautious welcome” to the Stern Review on the economics of climate change.

The leader of the RSA’s CarbonLimited Project, Matt Prescott, agreed that this needed global co-operation, but urged the British government to expand the notion of carbon trading downwards to the level of the individual when drafting the Climate Change Bill.

The RSA has produced the first mock-up of personal carbon trading online. There, members of the public can obtain an estimate of their own carbon ‘footprint’ by entering their gas and electricity consumptions, car and air mileages, on the RSA’s Carbon DAQ web site.

The RSA suggest that a personal target of 5 tonnes of carbon emission per annum should be achievable.

The RSA has a three-year project to investigate the feasibility of personal carbon trading. It has initiated research, conducted open public debates and is co-ordinating various trials.

Personal carbon trading entails allocating to each individual an equal share of the overall sustainable level of carbon emissions. There would be an open market that would enable those who had not used up their share to sell their surplus to those who need, or can afford, an entitlement to emit more than their ration.
